Thats kind of thought what is best way to treat an infestation that is this bad?

Fixing water quality problems is the only way. Likely phosphate is too high. Maybe nitrate as well.

could this be related to poor quality salt?

What size tank? How often is it maintained? How much water is changed? Is the TDS value from his ro/di unit at or near 0? Does he have a fuge with macroalgae? Does he run carbon and/or GFO or bio bellets, etc? How long are his lights on for? These are all questions that need answers if you want to be able to help.

if i was paying someone to maintain my tank, id want an explanation for that. a little bit is totes normal, but the way it's getting at the coral is not good.
was it them that tried to blame the salt? lol

Tank size is 110 sump adds 30gal no carbon or gfo, using LR rubble and bio balls with 300 micron filter socks, lights are on 4-8 hours a day asm g2 with 3500 skimmer.

Live stock is minimal till we get this handeled lighting is led not sure of brand. Maintenance person said he has tried all treatment for cyano and nothing has worked.

What is the live stock? Maintenance person sucks and is also lying. He shouldn't be using bio-balls, they create nitrates. And if the rubble is being used in the same fashion as the bio-balls, they're likely holding a lot of detritus which could do the same. Socks need to be changed out every 1-5 days depending on a number of factors. If they need changing every day and the maintenance person is only doing it weekly that will also add to the problems. Skimmer is also not very good. Take a water sample to a reputable store and have it tested. Do no trust the maintenance guy.

Before we start blaming the maintenance guy. How much, and how often does your friend feed? What kind of food?

Pellets have a high nutrient density, and are easy to over feed. This can cause issues like your friend is experiencing.

Maintenance guy shouldn't be using bio-balls on a reef, or rubble in the same way as bio-balls. A good maintenance person would know that. Also there are plenty of things to clear up cyano. It will come back if the root cause isn't fixed...but if it has never cleared for a few days then he/she has not tried everything.

Did the maintenance person design the system?

No, I have the same thought on the bio balls, I asked why not just use the on it's own and seed the tank with fresh pods and bacteria, I really do not want any part of what he is doing with this system because of what the owner has said to me about what is going on, I more or less am asking for my own benefit in case run into it in my system.

One of the changes made with new sump is o2 exchange is alot higher now and water moves through the sump very fast to keep detritus build up to a minimum also using 300 mic socks to catch large particles.
