View Full Version : Sumpless ATO? Explain?

Could someone explain how I would set up an ATO with this:

1. Rimless 12 gallon long Mr. Aqua.
2. Jebao R4
3. No sump

The only place for the float is the main tank with wave action.

How does the float valve work with the wave motion? Also water is only 1 inch from the top.

Was looking at the Tunze Osmolator Nano 3152 Auto Top Off

Thanks in advance, probably simple solution, I just can't wrap my head around it.

My tank is a bit larger but still the same idea, i was going to put an ATO in it if i ever get around to it, but the idea was to make a small acrylic box with the top open, keep the top out of the water, and drill a small hole in the bottom of the box. This should keep the water level steady and keep the wave motion out.

The ATOs with optical eyes (like the osmolator) are not affected by wave action much, if any.

Thanks!

So the tunze nano osmolator has an optical eye. Great, since that's the one that's most affordable for me.

Hard to tell much just looking at the pictures.

Thanks again,

I have 2 brand new Tunze nano 3152 and neither comes with the optical eye. If going with Tunze you need to get the 3155. As far as waves in the main display they will need to cease and put your wavemaker on Else. All my powerheads are on Else and I have no issues with the float switch.

This was very affordable (free!)
But it ain't pretty :)

I don't have much waves though

Oh sorry my bad, I was thinking of the 3155. I have the Hydor that also uses optics, but I wouldn't recommend it for a small tank.

Well then, looks like I will go with the else option.

Thanks for the clarification.
