over the last couple of weeks my biocellatus wrasse has been going through some changes. First of all its lips turned pale blue, and now it seems to be developing a 'hump' on its head. Is this maybe a 'nuchal hump'? I suppose the other possibility is some kind injury... this fish seems to have a tooth growing out from the upper lip almost horizontally (by the red spots) which looks odd... hasn't got one on the other side..

looks like this may be an injury... wrasse not eating now and seems unable to close mouth.

My melanurus had that happen. Unfortunately she was unable to eat and starved.
I think she ran into something while trying to bury herself in the sand.
Sad.

thanks :-)
Thought I'd update this for future reference... yes sadly this fish died after a few days.
It had been in my tank for several months along with a H. melanurus and seemed to be doing really well. Very sad :-(

I had the same issue with a Potter's wrasse. Had the fish for almost 2 years and it somehow injured it's mouth. It stopped feeding and literally wasted away. A complete fluke of a way to lose a fish...
