I'm setting up my new 65 gal tank. I have a 25 gal nano that has been setup for one year.

The 25 gal nano has gha on the rocks. Would it be foolish to use this rock in the new 65 gal tank? Is gha avoidable or will it happen sooner or later anyways.

Basically I want to use my established LR to get the new tank going only "if" gha is totally unavoidable. "If" gha is avoidable I will start fresh with the new dry rock I have purchased.

Thanks,

-Ted

I believe either way you will probably end up with GHA. Once your 65 is cycled you could run a media reactor to help export the phosphates and this would control the GHA.

No problem. Most all tanks get it. GFO cures it.

You'll prolly end up with GHA anyways. Once your tank is cycled, get a sea hare, and it will clean up the tank in a week. Just make sure you can return it cause they starve out quickly. My whole 20L was covered in GHA and it eradicated it. That's not a long term solution, but they can get rid of most of the visible stuff, and then start running gfo
