Bit off the OP topic but that sump looks dangerously undersized and a flood waiting to happen if you lose power...

24". So now its 28". My last tank suffered from low pH (7.6-7.8 range). I had to use sodalime to raise it.
My thoughts with the big skimmer was to drive more O2 into the water........lets see???

What makes you say that?
How do you know how far his water drops when the pump is turned off?
It's not a big tank so it shouldn't be more than a few gallons.
