My tank's dimensions are 48x24x24 , now that I've got the hang of keeping my WQ stabilized, I'm pondering on upgrading my power compacts to either T5's or L.E.Ds. Unfortunately for me, the only "worthy" fixture available around here is the Maxspect razor line.

Based from what i've read/heard they are great fixtures but obviously the $$ is a bit pricey.

Q: Considering the price tag of 1 thou $$ , is the 300w 16k razor worth it? I'd really love to get one but it's a bit pricey tbh.
Can anyone share their experiences with them?

PS. Yes, I want a mixed reef with montis and easier sps , softies , mushies , some lps.

I loved mine. Easy to setup, good color and a good spread on the LED pucks so you shadowing isn't as bad (as most LEDS)

Only got rid of mine for 3 radions

I recently switched from T5 to a 180w 15k Maxspect razor. Love the slim design! Color is great and my established tank is doing well with the light.

love mine, but they put the lights very close together. so i would consider buying 2 max spect 160 instead of one 300

I use 3 of the 420R 120w 16k for the last 2 years and really like them. I have growth and color that I am happy with. I currently have some mushrooms, leathers, LPS, SPS and Gorgonians.

To be honest they are the first LED's I have used. Prior to the LED's I used a 12 bulb T5 fixture.

I have the 4ft 320W 15k Maxspect lights and love it. Dont buy two 2ft ones cuz you only get 4 Led spot lights. The 4ft has 6 Led spot lights and costs the same; so you get almost 3 2ft lights for the price of two. :)

Wow gotta say I'm surprised with the feedback even from experienced reefers. Convinced for sure, considering if I should go with 1 300w or 2 120w/160w.

@gone_fishin - 3 120w's for a 180g and having great growth with sps and everything?awesome! Just nudged me once again to buy my own r420r.

Thanks for the info. now decided picking up the 300w 16k. Cheers!

How is it working for you KabayanReef? I am pondering getting one as well
My only concern is I have a 125g and it is 5' long... I know this light is designed for tanks that are 4' long....

I was planning on buyin Kessils for my tank, but I saw someone in a local buy/sell/trade group selling his 420R for $125, so I pounced. This light is stinkin' great! MY 4 bulb T5 just wasn't cutting it. All my corals were hanging on by a thread constantly, but I saw color begin to return within a few days. I had a small colony of 8 Actinodiscus sp. that had been in the tank for a few years under the T5's, within a month I had 12. My Undata now has coloration I've never seen before, and has doubled in size. Everything has taken off. It took me probably a total of 3 minutes to set up, and it looks great on the tank. I also have in on a 48" tank, and the spread does thin out a bit on the ends of the tank, but it is not enough for me to hate on it. It honestly looks both natural and dramatic like that, and I have the benefit of having a wide variety of photic zones. It's hands down the best thing I've ever gotten for my reef.

I switched from MH to 330W 4' Razor. So far, I am happy. Really like that I can adjust the white and blue till my (ok, the corals liking).

Good support as well. My LCD display went belly up (blue back light worked, just to display). Maxspect Support got back to me within a day with a Canadian Supplier and was able to get a new end cap/w LCD display for $20.00 CDN.

All good to go again........
