Two new arrivals:
I could tell you exactly what they are but lets see if you can figure it out. They are a pair but it's a bit trickier than that!

Yeah you see that too huh?? Guy has serious issues he needs to address. Seems that there is about one or two of them that show up every month and leave as quickly as they came

Male is crosshatch bluethroat hybrid
You got it!
Female is a pure Crosshatch and male is a hybrid Crosshatch x bluethroat hybrid.
Pretty lucky find! The LFS and I figured it out together as they got them in as a normal pair.
Thanks for playing,
JIM

Pm'd ya!
I really hope he still gets the typical crosshatch colors as he matures just with an orange tail. We will see!

What characteristics show that it's a hybrid? I see a crosshatch male with a tail developing its adult colors.

In researching I've found a couple things. I also thought that maybe he was just an immature male even though he is 7+" in length, could possibly be a recent switch.
His tail has a clear pattern that you see with these hybrids, the tail looks more male bluethroat but with a darker orange color due to the crosshatch alleles.
Another thing I read is that male crosshatches have clear blue dots on each scale, where as the hybrid will have long vertical blue lines. My trigger has almost (+) on each scale.
Lastly, under his bottom jaw he has a blue patch, I don't know if that is common with crosshatches or not but maybe some owners could help me out there?
I thought the same thing but the tail is more muted and never orange during the transition I've read.
Only a DNA test would confirm.... but all evidence looks like it is a hybrid.
I'm happy either way as I wonder if I'll miss the really nice dark red tail that I thought I would be getting yesterday???

Here's a thread with some more really nice shots of a crosshatch bluethroat hybrid. Yours sure looks like the real deal but regardless you got a heck of a nice looking pair. Good luck with them.
