Hey guys. Just trying to pinpoint the reason why my corals are not doing so well and ruling out factors. I've been using the IO bucket to hold top off water and was wondering if it's safe to do so. Do they leach out chemicals over time? Is anyone else using this for the ato reservoir?

I used an IO bucket for years, never had any issues from the bucket that I am aware of.

I used a regular 5 gal bucket from Home Depot for a while, no problems for me

should not be a problem whatsoever.

The reason why I ask is that I'm pretty sure it's not food grade plastic that is used so wasn't sure if it leached any chemicals into the holding water. There's been many discussions on using brute containers that are food grade plastics for holding water.

I have used the IO buckets in the past for the same purpose without problems. I have also used non brute trash cans with no issues.

i use IO buckets, as well as some generic home depot/lowes buckets, to store all my RODI water in.

usually sits in them for a week or two, until i am ready to mix a new batch of saltwater up. haven't had any problems i could directly attribute to them. i use a glass aquarium to hold my top off water, simply because it was the largest volume capacity for the space i could find. however, prior to getting the tank, i was using an HDPE container. again, with no ill effects i could directly attribute to it.

As others have already said you should have no problems. I have used the same orange home depot bucket for at 3 years with no problems.

I have used home depot buckets before with no issues. If it is a concern swamp it our for a 10 gallon fish tank. That is what I use now, but I did it so I could get over a week of top off incase I had to travel.

That blue bucket hanging from my ceiling is my top off water. RO/DI water automatically fills it and it siphons into the tank though a float switch. I think the bucket was for storing Anthrax but I am not sure. It has been there for 15 or 20 years. No problems yet.
