Ok, so about two months ago, I started reclaiming my tank from disaster-induced neglect. Since then, whacky things have been happening. First, my rock anemone spawned. Not a big deal, he's done it before. Two weeks later, I witness a massive pod explosion for the first time ever (tank's been running for three years). Next, my GSP(or encrusting gorgonian...not sure what it is) started exuding clouds of sperm into the water. I've never seen it do that before. Then, my sympodium coral starting ejecting little irregular-shaped blue things into the water. Also never seen that before. Now, my goniopora is jetting clouds of sperm into the water. I've only had it for a little over a week. What the heck is going on in my tank? Why is everyone so horny?????!!!!!!

spring fever?
idk about the corals, but where I'm at we are having the occasional not-bitter-cold day, when I open the windows for a day my snails get randy and make a mess of the glass lol
I figure my heater is just barely keeping up, so when the house temp dips fast the tank is a bit chilly and they think it's go time. maybe want to keep some carbon around if you have any allelopathic until all those pheremones settle down, just in case?

Should have taken video and sold copies as "Corals Gone Wild"

Stress can also make things feel the need to spawn. Stress will also make nems feel the need to split. Pods just show the amount of available food for their population to sustain

That's the thing....the tank is maintained pretty well, now. I don't know my phosphate levels because I cant find my kit. But, there is no excess algae in there. I had some hair algae on the return nozzels, but that disappeared over a week ago. There is no algae covering my rocks or anything like that. The tank is really the cleanest it's been in a long time. I run carbon and GFO. I have cheato in a fuge running on a reverse light cycle. The corals look almost like they did when they were at their best, before my mishap with the salinity....and that's saying something. Two months ago, they looked like garbage. So, nobody should be stressed. I think everyone is just reeaaalllly excited to be in this cleaner, well-maintained environment.
