I have BRS rox carbon in a filter bag in my sump. I put in next to the skimmer so the water exiting it runs through the bag. I was just taking a closer look and noticed that the flow from the skimmer was causing some of the granules to slowly float up and down. I would definitely not compare this to the GFO in my reactor but I am concerned if this would cause enough friction to grind them down and release dust in the tank.

I dont really have many other options for higher flow areas in the sump. My middle chamber has pretty low flow in the bottom (thinking of adding a powerhead there). Any input?

i do exactly the same thing. i wouldn't worry about it getting ground up as long as the granules aren't slamming into each other. i have a power head in the middle of my sump to keep the chaeto moving a bit but that might be too much for carbon.
