I have a bad ammonia smell coming from my new 90 gallon cube. Is this normal as the tank is cycling? It smells like cat Pee. I cant stand the smell. I am running some activated carbon. Can someone please help.

I just finished filling the tank this evening. It took me 3 days its only had water in it for 4 days. 1.025 Salinity. I will test nitrate and nitrite.

Pretty normal, especially if you had a lot of die-off on your live rock.

My tank stunk when you got close to it, but if you can smell it across the room you might have more ammonia than you need. Maybe it would be ok to do a water change to get it under 10ppm? That should be enough food for bacteria to start populating. if you don't have an ammo test (since you don't report that level) you ought to get one asap.
Just a thought, I'm new at this so see what more experienced posters think.

If it's up around 10 you need to get down. What's your ammonia source?
