Seen it yesterday. Was wondering what it was so I flashed a light at it and it closed up. Waited for today to see it again and managed to get it on video, but it won't let me upload. Took a screen shot best as I could as I could.

Did the video work for you by the way?

Video worked. I'm not sure what your friend is. The nature of the movment said crab to me as well. But no idea on what really. Is it always in that same spot? If it moves around, my guess is some kind of decorator crab. If it's always in the same spot, maybe some kind of bivalve?

Always in the same spot. Doesn't move what so ever. Too be honest, it looks like a pineapple sponge but once the lights flashed, I see it's top and bottom just shut directly when the light is exposed to it. It will stay shut for a little while, but than open up once more

It opened up again just now and I think I might of gotten a better video of it

Tribble ...... ?

Lol That's troubling.

That video looks like some kind of bi-valve. Is this a new piece of rock? If so where from?

How long have you had the rock? Bivalves typically don't survive all that long so if its an old rock, probably isn't that. I initially thought 'crab', but if it's staying put, not likely.

Nope, I've had the rock since day one my tank was ready to be set up. Roughly 6 months ago?

6 months ago ish? I think it's a fiji live rock from what I recall

Everytime it's open, I see something inside it than it shuts once I get a better look

I paused the video and set it up to go very slowly... Thinking about it, it does look like a crab? I see a claw or some sort? Notice it also?

Not to be argumentative, I got my rock shipped from Florida coast, it was in my tank for more then a year. After some rescaping I had some extra rock so I threw a couple into my premix tub. A month or so later a notice this little, white, pebble sized thing stuck to the side of my premix tub wall. Curious, I poked it with my finger. It resisted a bit then fell to the bottom. My mind started flipping through the catalog of possibilities. Then it hit me. Turkey wing clam that hiched in with the rock! So I scoop the little guy up and tossed him into the tank in a place I could watch him for signs of movement. Sure enough, he ups himself and crawls over to a shady spot to set up. He's still there, must be five to seven years old. Little guy has survived a cyno (and neglect) caused tank crash. I couldn't /can't believe it.

It definitely looks like a bi-valve. I found four last August and they are still alive.

How'd it get in your tank?

Not to be argumentative.

I choose the words I use carefully. 'Typically' means usually .....but not always :) I think most hitchhiker bivalves do not survive; but some clearly do.

Not bad, basically just another reef safe critter in tank ;)

Mine came in on live rock that a coral was attached to. You may not see them at first but they can move around to find a more suitable spot.

Bivalve, I have several, 1 is 2", been with me a year so far. They are harmless filter feeders. It's cool when they find new spots, they "walk" pretty fast, can watch them if you don't shine a light on them.

This is the one thats a little over 2" now when I first spotted it, the football shape flat against the rock.

This is what they use to anchor to the rocks, I guess some type of secretion? Looks like this when they move and leave it behind.

And here's a pic of a smaller one moving to a new spot.
