I searched to see if this was already out there and couldn't find it..

Would cheato be dumb to add during the cycling process or just wait till all the spikes are done?

Read a thread somewhere but had mixed reviews. Wonder if it would help with my diatom ugliness.

Doesn't diatom come from nitrates and phosphates? Cause then cheato would help lower that which in turn rid of the diatom.

I'm just afraid of slowing the cycling process by adding cheato to early.

Plus cheato is damn near free so it would hurt to try it lol

Cheato would likely bleach and be dead in a week or two. Leaving all of its nutrients for other nuisance algaes. Diatoms are good. They are consuming the silicates in your rock and sand. Patience.

Yea wait to put in the cheato, you will likely kill it during the cycle.

Actually it wouldn't hurt the chaeto. Or at least it shouldn't. I properly cycled my aquarium with a different species of macroalgae in, and although the nutrients went off the charts (not to mention the amount of times I just dump a bunch of organics (mashed seafood/fish food) in), it is fine.

Macroalgae is very different to animals. If my macroalgae was lovin' it through all that, I am sure chaeto would too.
