Reef octopus protein skimmer break in

Hey guys I recently purchased a used reef octopus bh1000. I was wondering since it's been used and broken in by the previous owner does the protein skimmer necessarily go through another break in process because it is introduced into a new tank?

I would.. just to make sure it's all clean and stuff.

It might take a week to break in/ dial in, but the initial breaking period I would think would be irrelevant

Yeah it'll be running for years (?!?!) just spend the extra time to clean it well and break it in.
