Hi guys I have a question about where to glue or place a union under the tank. I am piping up my new tank and need to know if there is a union right under the bulkhead and you need to take that bulkhead for one reason for another, how is it done if the pipe coming out of the bulkhead is glued into the BH and glued into the union ? If it will need to be cut out, why place the union there in the first place except to remove a valve ?

I have unions so I can remove the sump if need be. Or just to clean out a pipe.

Let's say you have a cracked sump, would you want to cut the pipe out or unscrew a union?

If you remove a bulkhead it would be easier with unions as well. Then just replace the bulkhead or reuse with a coupler to repair the pipe

I completely get having the ability to remove piping and be able to work on the sump or the pump . But it is the the union glued to the bulkhead connection and the ability to remove that BH thing that perplexes me.
How can the bulkhead be removed if it is glued onto the union under the tank?
in you very nice setup, how would you remove the bulkhead nut under the tank?

Use threaded unions.

Never really thought about it. . .I think if i'm removing the bulkhead I have bigger issues and i'll just cut the pipe haha. i'll have to stick my head under there tonight and see what i did.

or as Cuzz said threaded unions. . . although I don't think I saw those at HD

Make your unions threaded by using a short length of pipe (1.5") and a (male) threaded and piece glued to the union. Use a (female) threaded bulkhead. I only like to use female threaded ends in places where they can be cut off and replaced, since I've cracked many of them over the years. On a permanently mounted thread end, such as if you glue one directly to a union, I would only use a male end or you could end up with a useless union.
