Good morning all, I know this question has been asked a million times, but let's make it a 1,000,001. Does your regal eat/nip corals?

Please, only regal owners reply. No offense, but I get tired of people who don't own a particular fish telling me all about it without actually having any personal experience with said fish.

Thanks!

I've had a few over the years. Each one nipped at any of my fleshy brains, acan, scolly. And always went after zoas in my tank. I feed heavily too.
Never could keep 1 longer than 8 months though. Either die in first month or so, or be doing great and then one morning be dead(cyanide poisoning I'd suspect)

Mine were zooanthid assassins, nipped at clam mantles and fleshy LPS. Never killed SPS, though polyp extension Was less than in angel-free tanks.

I got a 100% sps tank, my regal doesn't touch anything. Not sure about LPS, softies, etc….

I think they are hit or miss. I've never had a problem with them going after sps. On the other hand as others have mentioned fleshy or zoes are gone.

I have a friend though that swears if you find a small one. Spot still on you, can train it to not eat any corals. Ie In Qt only feed frozen or live.

I've observed that the smaller they are the easier they eat frozen. Haven't developed the taste for corals.

Good luck one of my all time favorite angels.

Mine had been great with everything in my tank...sps, lps and zoas until yesterday. I picked up a 100 head colony of rastas and after about an hour in the tank they were down to 10. The regal was just hovering over the frag protecting his bounty!!!!

My Indo was hit or miss with softies, LPS and Zoas so I was still able to have some nice colonies of those, but clams and acans were on the menu. It never touched SPS.

Fleshy LPS such as Scolymia and Trachyphyllia are fish food, Zoanthus is treated like a kid would treat a bowl of pop corn. SPS and many other LPS are fine. I have mine (Red Sea) since 2002.
In my opinion worth it, by not-keeping certain corals you can keep many more fish.

I've had mine for about 3 years. It has survived a tank crash. It's a very shy fish. Doesn't come out in the open too often, even feeds from back under the rock work. In 3 years it has not grown much at all.

I have just about every kind of coral and clams, and mine is perfectly behaved.

My yellow belly will go after chalices, but, oddly enough, nothing else including zoas, trachys, lobos, favias, blastos, acans, clams and SPS. I think the only reason he loves chalices is that he was "introduced" to them by a multibarred angel I had. Keeping my fingers crossed he doesn't develop a taste for other LPS.
