Hi Guys & Girls,

I have some 25% Ammonia that I am going to use to start my cycle.

Started with dry base rock only.

Just need to know how much to put in the tank.

Tank volume of water is 470 litres.

Couple of questions.

How much do I put in initially and how much (if any) do I put in over the next month or two as the cycle advances.

Don't know the Matha-magical formula sure it is easy once you know it.

Cheers Shaun

[welcome]

I might try 1 ml and see what the measured ammonia level is. I think that'll be close to 0.5 ppm, which should be fine. 25% ammonia is a strong solution. Is that from a lab?

Bloke over here in Australia sells it on Ebay.

Yes I know beware Ebay, however all comments are positive to date.

only use 1ml ......great I bought 200ml!

Think my toilets will be squeaky clean for a while.

Bertoni, Thank you for the information, have been reading your posts over last year or so, and really appreciate you comments/knowledge on so many questions

Here's a ammonia calculator http://www.hamzasreef.com/Contents/Calculators/AmmoniaCycling.php

I think I started at about 4 or 5 ppm ammonia, then after nitrite rose then went down to zero, I brought ammonia back up to 1 or 2 ppm. Then keep bringing it up to 1 or 2 ppm ammonia when the nitrite reads zero. When it cycles 1 ppm of ammonia to zero nitrite in about 24 hrs its cycled.

Okay, the calculator's math agrees with mine, which means I didn't slip a digit somewhere.
