View Full Version : Feeding Question

So, I just put a mesh top on my tank. Since I am using the Ecotech rail kit to support 4 Radions, I had to move those around to get the mesh top to sit properly.

Because of that, it is a chore to get that mesh top off; not too much of a chore when I do tank maintenance, but probably too much of a chore for daily feeding (thawed cubes of Mysis among other stuff).

My question is:

Is there any issue with dumping the thawed Mysis into the return section of my sump and letting that food go through the return pump and sent back out through the return lines? (Possible issues include rotting food in the return section, clogging/gunking up the return pump, clogging the check valve)

Thoughts?

Works wonders when you are busy. Only down fall you are not able to rinse the bad nutrients off once it's thawed. Nice little piece of equipment. Prevents food from going everywhere. Or, are the holes in your screen top bigger enough to use a turkey blaster?

I have a mesh top and use a turkey baster to feed, fits perfectly through the mesh.

It's 1/4" mesh. I'll check out the turkey baster idea and see if it fits.

Or, just cut a small square out of the mesh so you can pour in the food. OK, I suppose a fish could find the opening, but it's what I did and no jumpers yet.

Just get a piece of plastic craft mesh and cut a patch to sit on top of the hole in the screen. It's rigid enough to just sit up there and be removed when you want to.

Go to Lowes and get some screen frame and make a screen with the mesh, like this:

Then to feed just lift a corner, like this?
