So day 33 of QT with 2 PJ Cardinals. I've done TTM but haven't done medicines. Don't plan on it unless I notice something concerning.
I posted a lot at the beginning of this about ammonia concerns.
QT is uncycled. I did a wc Tuesday and added a little prime. I'm probably at the recommended prime level. I plan on doing a wc tomorrow. The ammonia alert badge is never clear to me. I did a free ammonia test and it comes up 0. Totally ammonia is above 0 lower than 0.25. If I want can I add a 1/2 dose of prime tonight? Or am I just paranoid. :fun4:
Fish are swimming around, eating great, nothing appears unusual. I'm just a nervous nelly.
I have an in tank sponge filter properly rated for the 20G tank and a Powerhead moving water at 240g/hour.
Thoughts?

if you are 33 days you most likely have some detoxifying bacteria growing in the filter by now...

I think you will be fine. If I remember right, I believe I read on the prime website that up to 3-4 times the recommended dose would still be safe. Just to note I have never tried that.

Since I started TTM later in the process these current sponges are only a week old. I haven't added any more prime tonight. Maybe I'll "roll the dice" and just do the wc in the morning. Guys are swimming around looking happy. I'll be happy when they are in my DT :)
I'll test the free ammonia one more time before I go to bed. I'm sure it will show zero.

Good for you with TTM and QT!
Keep an eye on your ammonia, but you should be fine with the Prime as long as you do WC.
Going forward, keep a sponge or filter in your sump and you will have a ready to go QT for your next group of fish.

Iirc Seachem says 5x the recommended dose is ok, it's on the bottle.

Thanks for the replies. Last night I tested for free ammonia and it was zero. I still went ahead and did about a 35% wc Today with the appropriate amount of prime. I'll keep this in mind as I'm finishing up the QT process. Fish are doing great. No negative signs from what I can tell.
I dose Seachem Stability everyday in QT. Never have issues with water parameters ;)

I've been doing this same thing since day one in my QT. Works great, and I have never had an issue.

Not sure why it never gets mentioned.
