Snorkeling in Cedar Key, Fl

Headed to Cedar Key, Fl the end of this month with the family and bringing the snorkel gear.

Are there any other areas around Cedar Key that would be worth visiting for snorkeling? (no boat, accessible from shore, by swimming or kayaking)

I haven't snorkeled there, but I've dove the Gulf side. Water tends to murky with not a lot to see. There're some fresh water springs not too far away. I did my divemaster training in one of the springs. Crystal clear water. But a little cold! Enjoy the trip.

scallops are around in that part of the state.
yummm. scallops...
take a day or two and head south.
Naples-west coast.. Fort Lauderdale-east coast and anywhere south from there.
