Here's an article on the possible effects of long term effects of the use of pliable plastics tubing... INCLUDING Flex PVC!
I have a lot of Flex PVC plumbed into my system...mostly because I have my Sump in the basement and main system on the First Floor...
Thoughts? I'm sure many of use have Flex PVC and other flexible tubing that is almost irreplaceable... Worryingly to say the least...

I used this stuff for plumbing my system. It wasn't super flexible when it was new but it hasn't changed. As far as growth goes, I have more of a problem with corals growing too big and touching. Funny, when you first put them in your saying GROW GROW! Then after a few years......slow down that's good...no more....STOP ALREADY !

These are some of the concerns that led me to use pex tubing to plumb my overflow. The fact that I had it laying around from a plumbing project helped too :)

Interesting. Thanks for pointing this out. But to me the article reads like an OpEd piece in the NY Daily News. (For those who live outside NYC, that is not a good thing.) There is a single cite to a supporting source or study -- a Martin Moe article in the same magazine (if it is an article -- I can't tell -- and BTW I subscribed to this magazine and routinely received 1/2 to 2/3 of the magazine's contents despite my repeated requests for full access), but when I Googled the Moe cite, it led back to the original article?
Not saying the article is wrong, just saying there is not enough substance there to allow me to form an opinion one way or the other.

The citation in the article is def weak, I wouldn't take it at face value either. But... I didn't notice anything in it that was taken out of context or untrue based on the research I did about a year ago. Rather, the conclusions that the author reaches are unsupported. Like, yes, many of the plastics we use in our tanks contain recognized endocrine disruptors that are not used for potable water plumbing, children's toys, and bottles for drinking water, but that fact + "sometimes coral fails to thrive" does not = your pipes are killing your tank.
