I have recently purchased a Maroon Clown from a FS that was in a breeder tank being picked on by other fish, he was in the corner and wasn't moving much so I decided to pick him up for a discount. I got him home and I acclimated him and when he hit the water he pretty much tried to stay at the top of it for a minute or so then slowly went to the bottom and perched on his side, I do not have a QT tank up (yet) so I have no where to keep him but the nano for the time be, but I decided having a green brittle star that I would put a container in my tank and hold it with a magnet cleaner I have until I see him improve. I tried feeding him mysis just like everything else in my tank eats and he hasn't really taken any of it. We're on day 2 with him and from day one to now he's gotten a lot more active.

Parameters
Day 1:
Alk:8.0
Temp:76
Nitrates:Around 5.0 reading a tad bit darker than the 5.0
Salinity: 1.030 (was a little
High)

Day 2
Alk:8.0
Temp:76
Nitrates:0-5.0 in the middle with the color.
Salinity: 1.026

Day 2
Did my bi-weekly 20% water change and adjusted the salinity down. He has been 2x as activate but still lays on the floor. My other clowns have nipped at him but have calmed down and let him swim with them when he is swimming.

I don't see any signs or symptoms of diseases just won't get off the bottom and stay actively afloat.

I'll upload a picture from day 1 and try and upload a video of day 2 and will keep you posted. Any advice to bring this guy up to health please share! For the sake of my clown!

well if he's eating and getting more active, I would take it as a good sign. he's stress from being picked on and new environment, give him some time to recover.

also, adjust salinity slower. Lowering 0.04 is ok, but do not raise it that fast.

lastly, I hope you are not keeping him with other clowns.. dangerous to the others if they are not maroons..

So, you placedyour new rescue into 1.030 salty water? That might be your problem. What does the LFS keep their salinity at? I bet it ain't 1.030.

Also, you placed him in with other clowns? Not wise in a 20g tank. Talk about stress!

Too late to QT to try and limit exposure to your existing fish, but I would get one set up asap. Next time it might be good to have everything ready before you try and save a fish from the LFS. You might have doomed all your fish in an attempt to try and save this one (even with a steep discount)

what is the someone basing that opinion on? if it is bacterial and you decide to treat it, you will need to do so in a hospital tank.

Will be done in a 10g tank tomorrow when I have time to set it up. I work very long shifts in a ambulance and do not have time to set this up today. And just the fact he looks like poo and a hyposalinic copper based treatment might be to hard on him.

Set up the 10 gallon hospital tank, has a big bubbler I'm using as a air stone, and a HOB filter with a little rock.

Had a few suggestions for medications but decided to start on something a little more generic to start and see if we get results.

That fish doesn't look good at all. In general a fish that can't keep himself upright is near death.

Hoping for the best. Gonna do a week of this treatment, then do another antibiotic treatment.

If not I officially have learned my lesson and now a QT tank set up.
