Hey guys it seems like I am on this never ending search for the right lighting for my 125 gallon tank. Originally I had 4 kessil a150w 10k and was going to get a T5 ATI sunpower fixture. I want to get away from T5 in general and just have LEDs if possible. I can get 3 hydra 52s with the director to control them for a good deal? Are these lights a safe bet? I don't want to be limited in what corals I can and can't keep. I would I also like something that is pretty programmable. Would 3 hydra 52s be enough mounted parallel to the tank?

I've never used them but I know about them. They should be just fine for what you are trying to light. I use less expensive led fixtures and after 30 months I have absolutely no complaints. And I love the sunrise/sunset/moonlights over all 3 reef tanks (just dimmers over the frag tank).

What are your tank dimensions? I found the light spread to be poor when I had Hydra52s, awesome lights but you do need to make sure you have enough of them to cover your tank. I had 3 on a 5ft tank and really I needed at least one more, maybe 2. I did get good colouration and growth from areas of the tank that were well lit though.

Hopefully it will be enough to get me started. My tank is 72x18

At 18 wide you should be good with three units running parallel to the tank. 18" is about the max in the short axis from what I have seen.

Good deal. I think I will jump on the 3 units and they can get me started. I can always add another one down the road. These lights look really nice
