should i try to mix these two

my wife really loves harlequin shrimp but she also loves the purple dotty back. i have read that they love to eat shrimp. but i have also read that alot of people keep harlys with them without a problem. i do have an other tank that i can put either one in.

I have a cleaner shrimp and he has no interest. From what I have seen he is a little territorial, he found a spot he likes and will defend it if he has too but he will for the most part leave most life in the tank alone even close to his space. I think the combo won't be an issue at all. Have you looked into what the harlequin shrimp requires for food, I think it's awesome for you to take one on. I have always wanted one.

Also I think with the Dotty they ment brine and mysis shrimp. I don't think they attack larger shrimp

My Neon Dottyback would attack shrimp like a Great White shark if they were under 1"-1.25". Is yours a Purple Stripe Dottyback (Pseudochromis diadema) (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+1926+172&pcatid=172)?
