New to the forums, but not to the hobby.
I've been keeping salt tanks for ~30 years and reefs for ~10.
I was at the beach recently with my kids and they caught some 3 inch finger mullet in a cast net. They are young and proud and insisted that they bring them home to a tank so I put them in my 120 reef tank. It had some capacity for some fish and I figured what the heck..they'll make a little school and it shut the kids up. I didn't see a lot of risk.
They are quite seriously my new best reef friends. I didn't realize this at the time but they a voracious sand sifters. All day long they are down in the sand picking up mouthfuls of sand and spitting it back out. I have never had a reef with such clean sand and with NO effort. They can also be found skimming algae off the live rock.
My only concern is that I don't see them eating any of the other food placed in the tank. They ignore all of it.. including my algae formula. I hope they are getting enough to eat.
You can watch the sand action in the first 2 seconds of this video (not mine) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_1CaqnLE-k
Wondering if anyone else has any experience with them.
