So I recently ordered a reefbreeder photon 24 for my 40 gallon breeder and am looking for a little advice. I have a canopy that I would like to mount the lights in but it's going to be a tight fit. The top of the canopy is 7 inches from the water and the fixture is 2.5" thick so the leds will only be around 3" from the surface of the water. Will this be an issue? If so here are the solutions I've come up with.

Solution 1.) Replace the 90 degree lenses with 120 lenses or no lenses

Solution 2.) Cut out a section of the canopy to allow the fixture to sit flush on top. This will allow the fixture to be about 7" off the surface but will still keep the light from filling up the whole room like I'm trying to avoid.

Thanks for any feedback!

Solution #2, I have a friend that did that with his Hydra 52's

Thats what Ive been leaning towards at this point, it would also allow me to program the unit without opening the lid. Seems like the best option.

I did option 2 and still ended up replacing 90s with 120s. At that height I had spot lighting and wanted a better blend.

The lid of my canopy is about 1/2" thick. Do you have the LEDs sitting flush with the top of the lid or the bottom? Im wondering if I would get any shadowing if sitting at the top.

I did solution #2 although my canopy may offer some mor eheight. Did you look at the Reefbreeder Sponsor forum here at RC a whole thread on it.

Was not aware that existed so thanks for pointing me in that direction. I found a few examples of what I am planning on doing but if anyone has pictures showing this in more detail it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

My canopy swung open from the front and here's some photos of how I did it. While not RB Photons, mine(LEDzeal) are pretty similar and I wanted the units cooling fans to be able to "breath".

As you can see I cut open much of the top including the hinges for the canopy door, but ended re-enforcing and adding latches to make the door removable.

Latch to removable door/front.

This is how I normally leave it now for ease of access, unless I have guest over.

Thanks for sharing, that looks super sharp. Your tank is beautiful by the way.
