So here in Edmonton canada i asked if i can have built a tank 24"x30"x16" high, no braces, black silicone, and two holes drilled for a side wall overflow. All four sides would be starphire glass. They want $700! For a 40ish gallon. Plus the metal stand for 350$.

So should i spend $1050 on a 40 gallon guys?

Does not seem like that bad of of price. Might be.cheaper out the. But do you like there work? Then its might be worth it. Price include shipping? I would skip the stand and build your own out of wood.

Not a good deal at all IMO..

I wouldn't pay more than 500 CAD if that

Yikes! Here in the states you can get a 40b for $40. It's not the same tank, but you're looking at almost 20x the price!

Seems slightly over priced, but within the realm of custom tanks.

Custom dimensions and 4 starfire sides is what drives the price up.

different dimension tank. The one you are talking about is not drilled and does not use starphire glass.

I was having the same issue when I was planning on my tank. I ended up just going with a Mainland 40 breeder tank and getting it drilled. So much cheaper, ended up costing $100 total. Not the $800+ I was looking at for the custom tank.

I paid 200.00 for our 84x30x22 5/8 Glass Custom tank.... Got it used but still.......

I could not justify that price at all .. My opinion.. But I am Cheap.... Money looks better in the bank then a tiny glass box.

Thanks guys. Ill see what the price is for regular glass and a front panel starphire. I reasoned that its crazy. I could get 3 kessil a360, 3 maxspect gyre, an Apex gold for that price.

Custom dimensions, starphire, but still a bit steep IMHO.

For perspective, I paid barely more than double that for the custom ~90g tank from Miracles I just had delivered. 48"x30"x15" peninsula, starphire on the three viewing sides, black back, white bottom, two 3/4" holes for the return, 24" external overflow box with three 1" holes, eurobracing, custom tubular steel stand. Exceptionally well built, and they were great to work with. It might be worth asking them for a quote. They came in well under the other builders I got quotes from, but my tank was absolutely flawless.

$1050.00 Canadian? Or US dollar? I would not see a need to have the back starphire. Perhaps that could cut down the cost a bit. Either way that is a boat load for a tank that size.

Can you really even tell the diffrence between regular and starfire glass on that small of a tank?

I kinda doubt it. I can see a clear difference on 1/2" glass, but my understanding is the difference is minimal on lesser thicknesses.

With my eyes , I can only notice a difference in thicker glass . Starphire is much clearer with thick glass but with a tank this size, I don't think it would make a difference. This is an expensive hobby, and with that said , if you think you would be happier and have the funds go for it . If you don't care about the starphire on a small tank , get it without . That should save a decent amount just going regular glass .

When Oceanic built my 29 gallon tank 12 years ago, they used 1/2". I am not sure they make a thin low iron glass? Oh yea it was like $200

My rimless 120 is only $100 more. I could not justify dropping that much on a tank that size. Custom tanks are pricy and IMO not really worth it for less than 200 gallons. You could probably get twice the tank for that or less if you found a standard size you like.

Its the ALL edges polished and 4 sided starfire. Almost half the cost right there...

saying you can buy other things for the same price isnt justaifible. I can buy 4 civics for the cost of a audi rs7 but wouldnt....and three kessils are $1290 canadian FYI

My custom 210 starfire polished edges cost over $1600 and only the front is starfire, not including the stand.

I made my own 65g (4' x 2' x 14") and a stand all for under $500. The stand isn't a cabinet, just a stand. But it's a get shallow tank to play in!

So they want 395$ for non starphire and 350$ for a metal stand.its rimless and braceless. I think ill pass.
