I picked up a SWC 250 s2 cone skimmer with a single pump a couple of years ago at a great price. I'm considering putting it on a 120 gal I recently acquired.
My question is this: Would I be better served by selling it and/or trading it for a smaller skimmer?

I personally don't believe you can Overskim.
Once the organics are out it will just go dormant until it had more to skim.

+1 ^^^
Keep it, use it, enjoy it.
Go big or go home!
We have a skimmer rated for 600 gallons on a 150 gallon frag tank!

Because I dropped it and needed a replacement ASAP for the big tank. Just ended up fixing the dropped one and put it in our frag tank ;)

I think there is a point where you can actually overskim, or the skimmer is just too big to be effective, and keep in mind excessive watts means more heat added to tank, but I don't think that would be an issue.
Of course I could always trade you my SWC 160 if it makes you feel better!
(^^ That is joke of course but you get the idea)

I'll use it.. Thank you for the feedback. Maybe I can use it as an excuse in the future. "But honey, the skimmers rated for 400 gallons, we NEED a bigger tank!"

Great excuse, why stop at a skimmer rated for 400 ;)
