I got a really nice wet dry sump from my friend for free. I also got the skimmer for $125 brand new. Can i get away with putting the skimmer in 7 inches of water because if i raise the water any higher the majority of bioballs will be under water which is not beneficial. Pls help. Hope i didnt waste money. :o i should have gotten an out of sump skimmer :(.

The easiest is to give it a try. It is not optimal but it could work.

Is it not possible to add a skimmer section to the sump?

I have my BM is about 6". After some break in time it runs like a champ.

The water level adjuster really has a ton of play.

You could use a sterilite container or something, set it under the tank drain, and put the skimmer in there.

I just measured and my skimmer is only sitting in 4.5" of water and it's doing fine.
