Ok after one set back after the other I am about to start filter water. I bought the specerta pure chloramine unit
http://spectrapure.com/RO-RODI/RODI-SYSTEMS/Chloramine-Removal-90-GPD-RO-DI-System as I dont own this place and will most likely be moving at some point.

I have noticed my water got hard this summer was not an issue in the winter.
should I be worried about clogging up my pre filter?

My freshwater tank gets all crusty at the top from the hard water. I've never had an issue with my RO unit. Just keep using the .5 micron prefilters and you will be ok. Just be sure to change the prefilters every 6 months or so.
