I am trying to light up a 190 (72l-24d-25h) for lps and sps. I love the shimmer of the kessels but wanted some more ideas but don't want to spend more than $1k. Please let me know what you think the best setup would be and why. And I would like to controls them with my apex

You only want leds? Otherwise mh/t5 combo would be my choice. 2 of them over the tank with the right reflector would work good and only cost 500 if bought new

Goby, if you don't mind utilizing the energy, 3, 250 watt halides with good reflectors and you'll be all set. I have some kessils set up and enjoy them very much but the price point...

It's less the energy and more the heat and controllability

The only way I know how to light up a 190 is with two Reef Breeders 32 and forget the apex control. Three BML XB fixtures would be nice but that's around $1,500.

Well, to deal with the heat, apex control, and the desire for some led lighting issues together, I think that leaves a a dimmable t5 unit with a led supplement bar for that size tank within your budget. That or a used led setup .

I would look for a used dimmable t5 fixture and then a new or used supplement bar. The ReefBar Pro looks interesting for a reasonable price and there is a blue/white and a full spectrum choice.

Good Luck
