Hello,
What size RW would you recommend for a 125 gallon (6 ft) predominately LPS reef? From what I have read most people using the RW-15 have to turn down the power to prevent sand storms so I was wondering if the RW-8 would be adequate if I ran it on full power.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

I would get two rw-8's. I have two rw-15's in my 120, but I have a bare bottom setup so the higher flow benefits me.

You may need to add another in the future.

Should I go with 2 RW-4's on my 40b?

I have two RW-8's in a 4ft set up. They move serious amounts of water! I would go with 8's or use 15's at half power - but bear in mind the 15's are NOT small pumps.

To give an idea, I get vortexes from the surface forming at anywhere above 70% when the RW-8's are 2/3rds of the way towards the bottom. They are easily hitting the opposite end of the tank with flow at 40% power.

Two rw15s in my 150 gal six foot tank. Wish I had gotten the rw20s no sandstorm here.

I did and found the pair to be insufficient. They might be fine if you are doing a back-of-tank wall, however, and have an otherwise wide open water column.

I had an RW8 on my 40B. Had to run it at half power otherwise it blows stuff over.

I bought 2 RW20's for the same tank and I only use one plenty of flow across the whole length of the tank and that's on the lowest setting.

I'm now running 2 x RW15s (at full power) in my 180 (plus 2 x WP40s). Each pair is controlled by RKL random wavemaker so only two pumps are on at same time. Works for me.

Two rw8's would of been way over kill for a 55 gal.

2 RW-8s would be best. Better to turn up the flow if needed then being limited to the RW4s being turned up all the way because you need more flow and end up not having enough.

That's what I'm thinking Isaac

Especially if you consider the price difference, which is only like 10 dollars I think. I only have 1 RW-8 right now and I get great flow but I am getting another one very soon. Only thing that sucks is I have Oolite sand so I don't blast my powerhead on high.

I have an RW8 w/Mag5 return in a 50g. cube(24x24) and I to run the RW8 very low or my shallow sand bed is blown every where! I like the W2 setting but cant use it,..even on the lowest setting it is too much. I am currently on W1 "3" and think I need to turn it down one "notch". These things are crazy strong! I was playing with the settings before I had any sand in my tank and at full throttle I was worried I would slosh my tank right off the stand, the water was slamming that hard against the glass. I have found that the speed setting has as much effect on water movement as the power setting.

Both of my rw4s run at 100%, it's not enough flow IMO.

Im currently using 4x RW15 in my 300g (8 Feet). I one on each end of the tank and the other two on the top back glass facing towards the middle of the front glass.

Im run them in various speeds and modes throughout the day with my apex but highest they go is 90%. Keep in mind they change speeds within seconds so its not a constant blast at 90%. If I were to run them at 90% all the time I would probably get a sandstorm or all my sand would get pushed towards the left and right side of the tank.

For a 6 foot tank I would think two RW15 would be just fine if you run them in ELSE mode.

I had 2 rw in my 60g but Im moved up to a 150xt and I put in the rw8 and one FS8000. I have a ton of water movement

I may get a gyre at some point to put in as well if I can ever stomach the cost.
