Hello

So I recently cracked my 60gallon tank. Well my niece did. Anyway, I quickly drained the tank and set up a 55gallon with 50lbs of live sand and artificial deco. And actual marina filtered saltwater and switch my eel over. This is the only living thing in the tank. He's been in the tank for about 3 days now and refuses to eat. Not even slightly interested. Any suggestions? He's always fed very well on frozen shrimp. Please help thanks.

Try some clams. But sounds like the system isn't cycled. In that case the eel is not enjoying the ammonia present.

You say "marina filtered saltwater" Where are you getting this and what is the sg of it. What are the water parameters of your tank.

Ammonia is 0 ppm and nitrite is 0ppm
Water if from local marina. A truck pulls it out filters it, then delivers to my LFS in a 1500g drum. Where I then buy it for 50cents per gallon. Sg is 1.023/4

Occasionally eels take a short break from their regular eating schedule and resume again later, for no apparent reason

Sounds Fishy! LMAO I couldn't resist :D

Seriously I've heard that before about them not eating on occasions. So if the water is in check could be.

This is true. If the problem persists more than a few months, then it might be something to worry about.

Like said they do go on hunger strikes. Have you tried squid? Eels for some reason have a hard time resisting it, I get a different feeding response compared to when I feed other things.
