Hi guys, I bought this anemone several weeks ago but forgot what type it was, its right on top of the rock structure on a 36" tall 400g tank.

The anemone measures more than 20" wide, sometimes even 24"+

Its very difficult to picture specially with the leds

That sure looks to me like a RBTA, if it is that's the biggest that I've seen. Do you have any pictures of the mouth?

I'm going to go with H. Magnifica aka Rittteri anemone.

Heteractis Magnifica, also referred to as Ritteri anemone in the hobby. Nice looking nem.

That is an awesome magnifica. It is absolutely hands down the most beautiful nem in the sea. Good Job!

I thought the mag had different tentacles that were shorter and fatter, LOL that mag gets me every time.

Is there an ID sheet that says the difference between the anemones?

Guys THX for the replies I appreciate all your help...

Should I feed this monster or just let it be? its on top of the rock structure and probably on a easy place for it to get some mysis shrimp when I feed them

THX again

100% classic magnifica. The best way to tell IMO is that mags typically have blunt-tipped tentacles, while BTAs almost always taper at the tip (regardless of whether they are bubbled or not). Another dead giveaway is the contrasting color at the tip.

It's so big that I would be reluctant to spot feed. It will do just fine without target feeding, but just won't grow quickly (if at all).

Thank you, I am looking at my BTA's now and see what you mean about the tapered tips.. Something so simple and slight of a difference makes a huge difference in ID.

Now to learn the difference between the carpets

Mags will do just fine without being target fed. In fact, if you do target feed, you will discover in short order that your 24" beast is now a 30" behemoth. Even 'unfed' they will collect enough stray food to still grow, just more slowly.

This, but only if they are getting enough light... ;)

True, I guess I just assumed that was implied :)

Another characteristic of the mag its its propensity to climb to the highest point in search of said light and flow.
