I have building a system and discovered that I used some GE silicone 2 along with other tubes of Aquarium safe silicone.

The system has been without any water yet and has been curing for 2 years, since it is cured will the system be safe to use?

the total water capacity is about 300 gallons total.

opinions?

well for GE-II I think 9.8fl-oz (GE5000) MSDS says its got stuff like this in it. It also says don't use it on aquariums. I not sure what those are for sure without doing more research.

Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated middle
Silanamine, 1,1,1-trimethyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)-
Tin, dibutylbis(2,4-pentanedionato-.kappa.O2,.kappa.O4)-, (OC-6-11)-

If memory serves the GE I says not to use on aquariums as well. I suspect that once fully cured either will be fine. GE I is an acetyl cure silicone and stinks; GE II is a neutral cure so don't assume lack of strong smell means it's cured.

i dont think length of cure has anything to do with it as its designed to kill mold for many years...and GE I and GE II for construction use have those additives...i'd razor it out and cover with the real stuff

Just go to your local fish store and pay the $10

I used GE II on my sump cured 7 days with no problems. Just make sure there are no mold inhibitors and that it is 100% silicone. GE I is no good because it has that stuff...but if you want to be safe, go with the stuff that is meant for fish tanks.

GE II Not reef safe.
GE I Reef safe, harder to find, and it says do not use in aquariums.
