I'm setting up a new 120 gallon mixed reef tank and see a lot of people recommend using either a plain blue or black background. I was thinking black but was wondering if anyone ever uses something like this?

To me that back ground would take away from the corals in your tank. Black or blue backgrounds allow your corals and fish to shine rather than a fake background. Just my opinion though.

This is the coolest background I have seen on here.

I used dark tint on my 90 and painted the 150 black...it gives the fish and coral more pop....lol

If your not planning on cleaning the back glass on a regular basis, it's not really going to matter what you put back there once Coralline algae takes ahold. Make sure to leave plenty of space in between the back panel and your rock structure if you plan on doing this. GL.

I'm a big fan of the black backgrounds btw.

I would use dark blue or black on the background. It will have coraline growing on it most likely and will look better than the bright colored background. IMO those colorful backgrounds are out of date.

everything gets kind of lost with those picture backgrounds. dark blue or black will make coral and fish pop.

That would be kinda cool on a BB QT system though.

Otherwise I'm a big fan of black. Dark blue certainly has its place.
