Can you mix CaribSea Original Grade Ocean Direct Live Reef Sand with CaribSea Special Grade Arag-Alive! Live Reef Sand? I already have a bag of the ocean direct and want to get a bag of the special grade to have a mix of grian sizes but also get the benefits of the ocean direct kind.

You can mix them but the smaller grains will settle toward the bottom rather than the different grain sizes staying mixed.

No need to spend extra money on live sand either, dry sand will become just as live after time

Since the Ocean Direct sand is like .5-6.5mm it has a broad range of grain sizes in it. I'd find some dry sand that you like the look of, something in the 1-2mm range is pretty standard, and rinse it well before adding to your tank. Then I'd put the bag of live sand down in 3 or 4 piles so that bacteria can seed the dry stuff. You'll save $ and have less cloudiness than if you go all live sand.
Like the other posters said, mixing diff sizes doesn't really work out.
