View Full Version : Compression coupling for overflow

Anyone have any experience using compression couplings below the bulkheads of an overflow? I'm just thinking it'd make it possible to remove the bulkhead someday if it ever starts leaking vs. a union which would require cutting the pipe between the union and the bulkhead.

Are there downsides of using compression couplings?

That style works very well, especially in a situation like that where there is no pressure.

I asked a similar question a while back and I was informed that the cost of a bulkhead isn't so expensive that it is worth possibly having a leak point that would have otherwise not have been there. I have the same setup as you and my lines go straight down to the sump. If I ever need to move it, I can simply cut the pipe and couple it if anything.

I had 2 of them on a siphon overflow for many years with no issues at all. I now use one on a pump in the sump and it seems fine, but it's in the water!
