I have two identical rapidly growing corals and one is doing this.
Normal?

Why so bumpy? Mine don't look like that.

My purple looks like that, it is probably just encrusting to feel secure

yes normal. I'm not sure that's a monti cap though, looks more like an encrusting monti than plating

Different flow.
How are your guys' montis so bumpy? Mine is smooth almost.

Mine were just thin potato chip looking just 2 months ago. I haven't doe anything special, they just look like this on their own. I think i have same light as you. I do have lots of flow. there's noticeable weekly growth!

I would guess they are getting a good light bounce from the white sand right below them, they should be able to grow anywhere there is light and flow.

Montis can exhibit variable growth forms certainly. Not sure that the one in the first picture isn't a setosa though.

that would be great but I doubt it. Same coral in the second photos.

Anyone else care to share some thoughts as to why this coral is growing like this? It is now sending up shoots from the rim of the cap.

Top photo definitely looks more like Setosa than Capricornus to me!
