We are currently in process of building our sump room for our 290 g. we don't have everything setup the way we want right now, so for the time being we have our mixing tank as a 125 gallon with just about 40 gallons in it with a heater and a powerhead. We use this water for our water changes on our 40 gallon.

It's been about a month with mixing and now problems. Left town for the week traveling for work and come back to a completely cloudy tank with thick white residue. I felt it to see if it's gritty... Maybe my husband just put wayyy too much salt in. Nope. It's thick gross slime. We're using R/O water, and feed crystals. I haven't pulled out the heater yet to see I it could've malfunctioned, think it could be that?

well, somethings seems to be precipitating out of the water. check salinity to see if too much salt was added. Don't know how or why the heater would matter. Slimy though, that's odd. Personally I'd toss the water and start again with small batch to make sure there wasn't something in the tank that's creating the issue.

We don't plan on using the water at all, will be ditching it and starting fresh. Was kind of hoping it was something from the heather (being it's the only thing in the tank), salinity is completely norm, not high at all. It's strange this is coming up a month after being a mixing tank.
