Thanks everyone! I used a Nikon d810 with Sigma 35mm f/1.4 and Tamron 90mm macro lens to shot these images. I have a setup with off camera flash on a boom stand hanging above the tank that is triggered wirelessly., I took me a good 2 hour session to end up with these. Please lmk if you'd like more details on this setup.

Fantastic pictures.
Always wondered how people took pictures of fish.
Now I see how complicated it is.

Is that the new Art edition 35 1.4? I have a Tam 90, but you have achieved some crystal clear shots with that nice lens. Something I struggle to do sometimes. Dual strobes, or just one? TFS

Thanks again. Rick, yeah, it's the new Art series lens, amazing piece of glass. It's so sharp it almost gives a macro like details. I am now eyeing the new 20mm they've just came out with for astrophotography. I shot with one Quantum knockoff strobe from Adorama.

Love the clarity of these shots and the expression you were able to capture.... I need to learn how to use my Nikon better. Thanks for the picture tips!

I've actually been putting off getting the 35mm lens because I use a 24 2.8 so much, but I also have a Sigma 50 1.4(older version) as well as a swapped mount Minolta 58 1.2 that also walks around with me most of the time. However, the new Art line is a very good looking line, and you show that off here well. I need to shoot more aquarium shots with the Tamron though, you've achieved some really great shots here with it here.

of course, I will not take credit away from you. It isn't always about the gear, it is mainly the photographer. So kudos to your skill and showing us these wonderful shots. I will go check out your coral thread now :)

I usually shoot with Nikon 16-35 f/4 but for aquarium purposes, this lens gets very little use. The art line is indeed awesome, I wish I could afford the 50mm and the 20mm but if I had to choose, I'd get the 20mm as I like landscapes. I am debating between the Sigma 20mm art or saving money and get the samyang 14mm which gets very good reviews online.

I've used that 14mm but as a Rokinon and I love it. Of course for Landscape photography AF is overrated, lol. You should give it a go, it is a really sharp lens throughout the whole frame.

Same here, I like the Rokinon/Samyang/Bower 14 mm as well. Only thing I don't like is the distortion for stitching applications of milky way/star shots. There are times I'd like to stitch multiple shots together in PS and even with lens correction algorithms, it is difficult. I've thought a 20 or 24 mm lens would be better in this regard.

I think you are right in your assessment. Now that I think back, I think I did run in to this as well with the Rokinon. I have a nice Minolta 20mm that is so great at controlling distortion, and I already have the profile for it to correct it. However, I have never shot Milky way shots, I do live in Los Angeles where the only Milky Way we know of is sold in candy stores, lol.

I have had the same problems with Nikon 16-35mm sometimes, the worst case is that mustache shaped distortion when stitching multiple shots. On the other hand, I am still an amateur when it comes to creating panos, but I really love making them. Here's a couple of mine from recent times:
