How many of you mix your GFO and Carbon? Was thinking of getting one BRS reactor and mixing the ROX 0.8 Carbon and the High Capacity GFO, this would be for a 120 gallon aquarium, does this sound like a good way to go???

I personally prefer having two. Carbon will typically last longer than the GFO depending on the system. If running just one reactor with them mixed then you have to replace both at the same time, which can be quite wasteful.

Secondly, I like to be able to control the flow depending on the type of media. If you have them mixed then you can't do that.

This is just my preference. I have run them both in the same reactor out of necessity when one of my TLF broke. It works fine, but like I said you lose a bit of control, and it's more wasteful.

I prefer two separate. In your case you would be better off looking at this.

My original plan was to do this to a BRS reactor, when I called them they were the one who suggested just mixing?

An all in one is going to be more of a hassle than just keeping them separate.

There isn't necessarily a right or a wrong. I just find separate easier going. Spartanman did a good comparison of the pros and cons.
