Quick background - I noticed my male eightline flasher was looking rather thin and pale last week, but he was active and eating, so I was thinking maybe an internal parasite. Rest of the fish are very plump. A few days later, I noticed what looked like a light whitish patch on his head, but it was hard to see. When the T5's go off, the spot became bit more visible under the 20k LED lighting, but looked like maybe he just bumped his head.

Sunday morning, I found him dead in the corner, and then noticed one the females now had a lightish spot on her head. She was active, plump, colorful, and eating - no indication that something was wrong other than that very light spot that was really only visible under 20k lighting. I haven't seen her at all since Sunday, so I assume she is dead now as well.

Now, the diamond tail has spots on his head and is thin. I can't tell if it's more of an ulcer, discoloration, or fungus. I tried to get some pics... hopefully, they'll indicate something. It's hard taking pic of wrasse with an iphone.

Other tankmates include 1 female eightline flasher, rhomboid fairy, 3 pajama cardinals, and 3 scissortail dartfish. Tank is stocked with mostly softies, zoas/palys, and gorgonians... Nothing that stings (other than some darn aiptasia). Corals all look good. I see no aggression between any of the fish and do watch the tank a lot - my desk is 3 ft away.

I'm completely heartbroken as I've never lost a fish before, and this is just so suddenly. Literally, last night, the diamond tail had no spots, and now there's 2 large spots. I'm scared I'll wake up tomorrow, and he'll be dead.

Parameters:

alk- 9.1 dkh
temp - 77 - 79
ph - 8.0
salinity - 1.026
nitrate - 15ppm (skimmer with almost full cup overflowed last week)
nitrite / ammonia - 0

1. How old is this aquarium? 2-1/2 years

2. If less than six months old, what is ammonia level? N/A but 0ppm

3. What is SG of this aquarium? How measured? 1.026 - refractometer

4. When was the last fish added to this aquarium? 5 months ago

5. Was it quarantined? If so, how? And how long? Was it prophylactically treated? How?

Diamond tail from DD. I feel comfortable enough with their quarantine that I prefer to release straight to DT when it comes to wrasses (please, no lectures - this is personal choice after research because wrasses tend to be poor shippers and don't always do well in quarantine. Not something I'd do with other fish). Anyways, he was a social acclimation box for a few days to make sure he was looking ok and eating.

6. If you are using a copper based medication, which one? How often do you measure level? When? NA

7. If you are using hyposalinity, how did you calibrate your refractometer? NA

8. Please describe in detail, the appearance of the fish? If there is one or more pimples, are they lumpy? What color?

2 lesion/ulcer/white spots on head. Could be fungus, but can't really tell myself. His body looks thin, but colors are good.

9. Please describe the behavior of the fish as best you can. Is it acting reclusive? Is it always up towards the top of the aquarium? Is it avoiding light? How active is the fish?

Active and swimming around all of the tank from top to bottom. Eating well.

10. Is the fish eating? What? Frozen Hikari Mysis and cylopeeze soaked in Selcon.

At this point, I'll get the hospital tank setup and get the diamond tail moved to there (hopefully, he's still alive tomorrow after seeing the female eithline disappear so suddenly). I'm not sure what do after that - what, if any, medications I should dose or other treatments? I did order prazipro over the weekend.

Any ideas what this is or what caused it? I do have a UV sitting around... should I hook that up? It's an Emperor Aquatics 40 watt.

Thanks for you help.

Do not trust any supplier (including DD) to quarantine your fish.

I asked for no lectures, I'm well aware. Thanks for offering any help. Much appreciated.

Is the fish's hiding spot next to a heater that is just now turning on due to the cold temp snap?

The overflowing skimmer could have fed a uronema outbreak that is now eating your fish. Do the spots have any red in them? A red outline?

That does not seem like a lecture to me. This forum is for us all to learn, from the responses to questions we ask and from reading the posts and responses of others. A response by someone as knowledgeable as Snorvich is appreciated.
