So years ago I would see at all the lfs these neat powerhead wave maker things that consisted of two parts, the impeller nozzle sits on the water side of the tank and on the outside is the motor and magnet and power cord

It's like sandwiching the glass on the tank anyone know the brand and where I can find these?

Are those the only ones? Is there a one without a controller?

Vortech is the only company that makes powerheads with the motor outside the tank, all have controllers

I was never a fan of vortech's mainly because they were loud and didnt like the mickey mouse look of them however the qd versions are supposed to be quiter. You pay for quality and coustomer service. So yes there are alway cheaper options i go with the quality and cs, thats why i like tunze's.

The issue I have is that my tank is deep and I can't connect the powerheads and wave makers to my outlet

My extension cord would be hanging above the tank I need something to go behind my rocks to get rid of the dead zone

If the powerhead sits too high it bothers the gsp if it's too low it throws up sand and bothers the clams...
