So I've never had trouble keeping Flame Angels in the past. Granted I haven't tried to keep one in a few years. Has something changed as to where or how they have been collected? So far I have had three die in QT for no reason. They are fine and eating one day and dead the next a few weeks into QT.

Not usually from most I've heard and seen from others keeping them. Where do you get them from? If all three from the same place I'd try a different seller.

I got the first one from one supplier and the other two from another. I guess it might be where they are importing from.

It does seem that flames are more sensitive than they used to be. Been keeping them for decades, and they do seem more problematic today. Collection practices perhaps, source locations perhaps.

How about the other fish in the tank, was there anyone who might have attacked them?

No other fish in the tank. Each never made it out of QT where it was by itself.

I had a bad batch of them recently from atlanta and cali wholesalers.. Just picked up one from a local tank he had for 5 years might throw him in my 300 reef since he came from a reef tank

Hmmm. I wonder if this is what happened to me. Why would there be bad batches? Is it collection area or collection practices?

+1... I have kept various Flame Angels in my tanks since 1973(have trio now) but have heard many stories about people having problems with acclimating and survival

I think I'll give it a break for now if their chances for survival aren't good.

Are you treating with Copper? They are very sensitive to copper. I have read that they do not ship well. I have lost 2, I never could get them to eat. So, I decide to give up and get a Coral Beauty.

No copper. They were only in qt observation.

About a month ago, I found a beautiful flame at my LFS. Ate just fine, no aggression from anyone. One morning just found him dead on the sand. Still no idea why. The only fish I've lost on this tank.

Although my trouble was not with Flame Angels it was very similar with first a Raccoon Butterfly and then a Small Blueface Angelfish. In the last couple months in my QT I have introduced a very small Yellow Tang and a Raccoon Butterfly. Both where eating, the Raccoon was very friendly coming up to the glass to be fed. 15 days into QT I found him dead. Next up was the angel, eating like a pig but around 15 days found dead. There was no aggression, and the tang was quite a bit smaller than both. All three fish came from Quality Marine which I consider a good wholesaler but not sure why I am having issues recently. I really do not want to tie the negative responses I have seen here on RC to issue with LA but I feel there is a problem with some QM fish. The YT is still doing fine
