Hi :)

I was just hoping someone could help identify the type of gorgonian this is and if it is photosynthetic or not. I can't seem to pinpoint exactly what it is. The protruding bumps are something I haven't seen before and this one is pretty rubbery and flexible.

If anyone could just help ID this it would be so helpful ! :twitch:

Have you seen it expand polyps? The spiny shape looks like a sponge. It could be an encrusting sponge over a dead gorgonia structure

Naw, those 'thorns' are poyps that have not fully extended

Its probably nps, but honestly only way anyone can tell you is to see an extended polyp maybe

No, so far no extended polyps. I've only seen polyps at night on the tiny fan that's attached to it.

So here are my two thoughts looking through a book I have. Muricea Pendula or Swiftia Exserta. Granted without knowing polyp color it may be a little more difficult.
