I just got my tank set up and want to do a reef tank. Besides looking cool what are the benefits or coraline Algee? Also if your rocks are covered in coraline Algee does it stop corals from growing on it if they are covered in it?

Coralline algae will help keep other nuisance algae from growing on your rocks to some degree. It will not impede coral growth, the coral will just grow over the rock as it normally would.

Carefull, sometimes coralline will grow over a coral.

Very, very rare if the coral is healthy. Personally, in 10 years, the last 5 with 4 tanks full of coral, it's never happened to me. And I have coraline algae that even plates out off some of my rocks!
