I havent really had an issue with Nitrates in the past, have been hanging around 10-15. I recently redid my piping through the ceiling to acomodate easier water changes, and have been doing weekly 10G changes vs 2 week, 20G changes. This is all on my 120G reef. I had always siphoned sand when i did a change, but since i switched to weekly changes, and twice as much sand siphoning, my nitrates have disappeared. The sand is only 1" deep. This is the only thing I have changed.

I guess what Im after is, has anyone else gone the route I have, and noticed the same changes? It may be just a coincidence. Thanks.

I normally sand siphon every other water change. Recently my fish were all in the hospital tank for 10 weeks and I did two tank water changes of 30%, without siphoning the bed. I didn't notice any nitrate differences between not siphoning the sand bed vs siphoning the sand bed.
My two cents.
