I purchased a new kit about a month ago. First test read zero. I've been testing just about once a week to see if there are any changes and still reads zero. I know that I have to have some sort of p04 in my tank as I'm starting to see some hair algae. Does anyone have any experience with salifert p04 kits? Any advice?

As much as I like the Salifert kits, I think this is one test (PO4), that would be best done with a Hanna checker.

I agree with Downbeach, I like Hanna for that specific test. Also when testing phosphates, you might not be getting a true reading because the algae is taken in the phosphates which is why you may be getting zero on the test.

I may have to break down and get the Hanna this week then.

The Salifert kit was okay for me, although it's a bit hard to get a number. The phosphate level might be low because the algae is consuming it as it's released. I might try some GFO, since that works in some cases, and is easy to try.
