I'm in the market for some heaters for a future 100g build. I was originally thinking of going with 2x 150w or 200w cobalt neotherm heaters since I have used them in the last with good results. However I have also read some horror stories with the 200w unit

I was also debating just buying 2x 300w finnex heater tubes and running it through the apex. Either way the apex will control it be the back up but I like that dual controller level of protection

What do you guys use and recommend?

Why 2x 300 w for a 100 gallon? Thats pretty overkill unless your tank is outside

I like the cobalts, even at dual 150s you should be fine

buy a titanium heater, they last, they dont break.

buy from Aquaponics store and not SW aquarium store.

If dual 150w is plenty then would it be better to do two cobalt neotherms plugged into apex as a backup. Or two finnex tubes controlled by apex?

I would do the finnex tubes on the apex, i think cobalt fixed the issue with the heaters melting but i wouldnt chance it still.

I like the Finnex titanium heaters, I have a 300 watt in my 120 tank works greats. I have mine hooked up to a ranco controller.

I like titanium heaters. They are durable, take a beating, and are simple looking.

But the cobalt that has ceramic is fairly nice too, if you are going to mount it away from any potential damage

They will both be in the sump of the next build. I like the idea of two smaller heaters vs one larger for redundancy and safety. I don't think the heater tubes come in less than 300w do they? Would two of these be a little overkill?

Aqualogic Temp Controller with a Finex 300w titanium heating element. It's what I run on my 72 gal system.

Two small heaters and unplug one when demand is not high. I use 3 heaters all controlled thru apex. I like match heater withe demand less chance of cooking the livestock.
